The
gods must be angry!. October -
November 2008
Just look at the world. We're in a hell
of a mess. War is waging, banks are failing
and nobody knows if the stock market will
stay up or go down. Both political parties
are calling for change and it sure seems
necessary for our very survival. Could the
gods have anything to with this? Are they
angry? To find out, we'll have to take a
little trip to the past. Most ancient
peoples tried to capture the mystery of the
natural world by personifying the powers of
nature they could not control or understand.
The most colorful, were personified by the
ancient Greeks and inherited by the Romans.
They gave us a Parthenon of Gods including:
Zeus/Jupiter, King of the Gods, Cronos/Saturn,
the god of time, limitation and karma,
Uranus the god of chaos and willfulness,
Poseidon/Neptune the god of the vast oceans
and Hades/Pluto, the god of the underworld
and mineral wealth. Could these gods have
anything to with failing banks and plunging
markets?
You're going to think it's a stretch to
understand their pertinence to the mess
we're in, so I'm going to ask you to use the
power of your imagination (Neptune). The
imagination is vast compared to the normal
mind. Let's put a different face on these
gods by describing their symbolic powers in
the world. Zeus being the great sky god
represents expansion and wealth. Saturn,
represents accepted tradition, structure,
the past, bureaucracy and fear. Uranus, the
god of chaos represents sudden and
unexpected change, willfulness and the
future. Neptune, the god of water and
liquids (oil) represents spirituality,
illusion and fraud (religion is the opiate
of the masses), and Pluto, the god of the
underworld represents death, resurrection
and great wealth (Plutocrats). How did they
get these powers? Over the centuries, they
were attributed to the planets by myths,
philosophers, seers and astrologers. .
Before you dismiss the rest of this
article, I suggest you heed the old axiom,
"as above so below." Astrology is a powerful
symbolic language that can give insight into
our present dilemma and a prescription for
how to cure it. The powers of the planets
and their cycles were based upon
observations by many people over many years.
And just as we can see the cycles of nature:
spring, summer, fall and winter, there are
other natural cycles at work that can
influence the expansion, contraction and
utter chaos that we are now experiencing in
our world. You can see it by looking at the
past. We are experiencing a repeat of
patterns that have happened before. I will
offer the following descriptions in two
distinct categories: Powers of the Planets =
the players and the playing field = the
Signs. Two of the most influential Powers
currently playing out a recurring pattern
are the planets Saturn and Uranus. They are
in opposition (conflict) and represent the
struggle between the fear of leaving the
past (Saturn) and the uneasiness associated
with moving to the future (Uranus). The Jedi
Master Yoda said, "The future is difficult
to see - too much emotion with the future."
What is most compelling is that the
opposition between these two planets is
exact November 4, 2008. And so the battle we
are witnessing is between the forces of the
past (status-quo, Saturn) and the promise or
uncertainty of the future (chaos, Uranus).
Somehow, both political parties have
gravitated to the elixir, "change," which
captures this energy well. But is there an
easy transition to come? The last time these
planets were in opposition was in 1965. That
was a time of change and revolution but I
would not describe the experience as easy.
Looking back at that time, Saturn was in
the Astrological sign Pisces, which
represents spirituality, compassion, large
institutions, the masses and on the negative
side fraud and dissolution. Pisces also
represents healing on the mass level through
large institutions. Uranus was in Virgo
which represents work, health, employment,
the common man and on the negative side
destructive worry. Virgo also represents
healing on the personal level by
implementing common sense habits. The
upheaval our social structure (Saturn)
experienced in the 1960s brought a new
awareness (Uranus) of what life could be.
Uranus played the part of the instigator of
new trends and a hope for a more
humanitarian tomorrow.
The opposition occurring now is in the
same signs Virgo and Pisces (the playing
field) but the players Saturn and Uranus
have switched places. Saturn is in Virgo,
and Uranus is in Pisces. Since the most
disruptive player is Uranus we will first
examine his meanings in this cycle. Pisces,
the last sign is being affected by Uranus.
It represents the culmination of all
experience or what is referred to as the
global experience, the one world. This is
the idea of a world without borders, a
global economy and democracy for all.
Although this is a compassionate idea, when
we look at the history of the world, it
seems to be an illusory hope at best.
Contrasted with the global idea is the
suffering of the common man, unemployment,
inflation and loss of value – the working
man and woman represented by Saturn in
Virgo.
So here is how the game needs to play
out. The forces of the past (Saturn),
want to
continue things in the same pattern,
protecting the status quo (current
bureaucratic structure). The forces leading
to the future (Uranus) see the need to
destroy the structures of the past so that
creative energies can lead to new growth.
Uranus is attacking the bureaucratic
structure that has failed while Saturn is
trying to protect the bureaucracy by sowing
seeds of fear. There is an interesting
balance that needs to be found if the social
and business structure as we know it is to
survive in some recognizable and stable
form.
The energy in an opposition always
implies a need for balance. And balance is
hard to achieve, just look at the world
markets. We need to maintain the structures
of the past - at least temporarily - if we
are to move to the future without total
chaos. Saturn is known as the Lord of Karma
and the Teacher. Surely he has given us good
lessons that point out some obvious failings
in the current world system. Greed and fear
(Saturn) have held a powerful sway over the
masses (Pisces) and have instigated the
terrible and unpredictable (Uranus) ups and
downs that the world is feeling. But since
Saturn is in the sign of the everyday man
(Virgo), he points to the need to be
practical as we move to new systems and
repair failed structures in the future.
Uranus, as the instigator of change,
needs to be harnessed in a practical fashion
(Saturn in Virgo) so the change that comes
does not totally destabilize our traditional
institutions (Pisces). They help maintain
our social structure and balance. If we can
take a little from both sides to create the
needed balance, we can move to the future
without total chaos. We have already
witnessed steps being taken to heal the
large institutions (Uranus in Pisces) and
this will help. However, we must not forget
the common man and woman (Virgo). If their
faith (Pisces) is not restored then fear
(Saturn) will unravel (Uranus) these efforts
like a house of cards.
In every good story there is a twist that
intrigues you and leaves you wanting more.
In this story, that twist is the planet
Pluto. But wasn’t he demoted by the
astronomers ?
Yes, but it was at his own bidding. You see
Pluto/Hades is the god of the underworld.
When he goes into the game, he wears the
Helmet of Invisibility. He likes to act
behind the scenes or undercover. So what
secret moves does the god of death and
resurrection hold for us? Only the future
knows for sure. Stick around, keep your eyes
wide open, for you are living in interesting
times.

Jupiter
and Pluto Direct - September 2008
The planet Jupiter has been going
retrograde since May 8, 2008. This is
usually a time of review especially in
business and with other socially expansive
plans. He goes direct at 12 degrees 32
minutes Capricorn on September 8, 2008. He
also makes a few beneficial aspects to other
planets which will be helpful. So you can
look for some good news and it is time to
put plans into action. The planet Pluto also
goes direct which is a positive influence
for change. However, Pluto works on a more
subtle level so even though you might not
feel the difference, it still should support
forward motion. He is wrapping up his
transit of Sagittarius and will soon be in
Capricorn for a long stay.
Since Jupiter is in the sign Capricorn,
we will use that sign on the first house or
the Ascendant.
Capricorn, the transit of Jupiter occurs
in your first astrology house. This is a
place that represents the expression of your
personality into the world. It should
increase your self-confidence and support
your optimism. Since Capricorn is interested
in the business of the world and the
structure of society, this may help you get
ahead. So be willing to take the
opportunities that knock on your door or go
knocking to find some. It would be a shame
to waste this wonderful time that will last
till the end of the year.
Aquarius, the transit of Jupiter occurs
in your twelfth astrology house. It may be a
good time to fade into the background for a
while so that you can restore your inner

August 2008 - Mars opposition
Uranus
This aspect is exact on
August 6, 2008 at three o'clock in the
afternoon Eastern time. However, it's
effects may be felt the week before and
after. The nature of Mars is dynamic and
aggressive although toned down in Virgo. It
represents our desire nature on the physical
level so it is often an active force that
takes direction from impulse and instinct.
Uranus usually works on a higher level than
Mars. Its nature is to be inventive and
eccentric. It represents the genius capacity
in our personality and it can instigate
disruptions of the status quo. Its
vibrations are electric and when in
opposition to Mars, the planet of war, it
can represent explosive and unexpected
events. Therefore, on a global scale, we
could see an escalation of violence or
protests against the status quo. Since China
is on the world stage great care will be
needed to keep the Olympics exciting without
allowing violence to erupt. There may be
some surprises as this aspect suggests
common people, as represented by the sign of
Virgo, may grow tired of the larger
bureaucracy, and take action against it for
its lack of sensitivity (Uranus in Pisces).
This may also have some effect on oil prices
which are greatly effecting the common man &
woman. The conjunction of Mars and Saturn in
July sent the stock market to one of its
lowest point in years. Now Mars, in
opposition to Uranus, may have a similar or
opposite effect. It will be up to the amount
or intensity of energy stirred up by these
two planets. For instance, this could
represent a breakthrough in new technologies
which would have a beneficial effect or
stunning new records might be set at the
Olympic Games.
Virgo -- the opposition
occurs from the first house of personality
and projection to the seventh house of
relationships and cooperation. Are you aware
of the way you are projecting yourself? Mars
gains strength by being in the first house
but if this causes you to come on too strong
you may be surprised by the reception you
receive from others. There may be too much
independence and willfulness going on for
peace. So if you want to maintain a good
relationship be willing to be flexible and

Libra -- the opposition
occurs from the 12th house of spirituality
and self undoing to the sixth house of
health, work and service to others. You are
a social being Libra so you may not like the

Mars conjunct Saturn – In a sense
one could say that this is an aspect of
antagonists. Mars is an impulsive and
aggressive force that does not like
restriction. Saturn on the other hand, does
not respect impulse and acts more out of
tradition and fear. Saturn is a binding
force that loves regulation, bureaucracy and
structure, it respects the status quo. Mars
does not like to be hemmed in and can
challenge traditional structure through
individual action. Mars rules action and
desire, Saturn responsibility. In its
broadest sense this aspect can imply warring
factions that do not want to understand one
another.

relationships and legal issues. Saturn can
speak with the voice of authority while Mars
wants to act like a teenager. Take your time
in partnership issues for your actions can
have great impact or lead to frustration.
Focus on equality.
Aries – The Mars Saturn conjunction
occurs in your sixth house of work, service
and health. This can be an important time
for you since Mars is your ruling planet.
Take the time to look at how you do things.
If you feel frustrated at work, find out
why. If you need a better diet, discipline
yourself now. You can finish important
projects. Focus on work.

creativity. It’s nice to feel loved.

gamble or sell yourself short. Take
inventory of what you have and how it can be
used. You must be productive and efficient

Mercury Direct - June 18,
2008
Mercury has been retrograde since May 26,
2008. Symbolically, Mercury represents the
ability to learn, gather information,
analyze, think, understand and communicate.
It also has an influence on business,
electronics, travel and general planning.
The term retrograde means that Mercury
appears to be going backward. It is not, but
it appears to be losing ground in relation
to the Earth. Mercury will go direct on June
19, 2008 and any difficulties involved in
the above mentioned areas will begin to
straighten out. This retrograde phase of
Mercury occurred in the sign Gemini, the
sign Mercury rules. So some disruptions in
normal daily activity must be expected. When
Mercury goes direct at 12 degrees 59 minutes
Gemini on the June 19th and for a few days
after, there could be some clearing work to
do. Some possibilities for each sign are
delineated below.
Gemini - Mercury has been retrograde in
Gemini in the first house of your chart. You
must concentrate on how you are thinking and
expressing yourself to others. Part of this
might be a need to control the amount of
movement, thinking and talking that you are
doing. It is never good to worry but at this
time it can be very destructive. Let the
past be in the past
Taurus - Mercury has been retrograde in
the second house of your chart. You must ask
yourself, "do you have something of great
value that others need"? Analyze the
positive and negative sides of your opinions
and let others know how following your
advice can be eminently practical. This is a
good time to be careful with your money and
signing contracts.
Aries - Mercury has been retrograde in
the third house of your chart. Take great
care in any reports that you are preparing
at this time. You might miss some of the
details if you do not study careful. What
you must look for is depth of knowledge
without being dogmatic in your expression.
Sometimes when you follow your impulses, you
are wrong. Develop patience.
Pisces - Mercury has been retrograde in
the fourth house of your chart. It is good
to be sensitive to other peoples ideas and
needs, but do not allow them to confuse you.
You must use your logic if you are trying to
make important judgments not just your
feelings. Study topics that are important to
you but remember to allow for the needs of
family members and home repair.
Aquarius - Mercury has been retrograde in
the fifth house of your chart. You are
always attracted to the unusual in people
and places but now you must be a little bit
discriminating. Yes they can have some very
unique ideas, just make sure they're not
babbling. Clever is good, unrealistic and
unpredictable can lead you down the path to
trouble.
Capricorn - Mercury has been retrograde
in the sixth house of your chart. You are
always interested in using time tested
techniques to solve new problems. However,
you have to know when an approach will no
longer work. Sometimes you have to be more
flexible and ingenious when old methods
simply fail. Now may be that time. But do
not throw away all the success from your
past. Learn how to integrate it into the
future.
Sagittarius - Mercury has been retrograde
in the seventh house of your chart. You may
feel the urge to run away or throw up your
hands when something is not working. This is
